9. Updating all the listings in the www.tutormentorprogramlocator.org database . More than 200 programs to contact. Info shows on maps, making it easy to see where tutor/mentor programs are located, and where more are needed.

I encourage you to host a workshop/panel to bring together folks from Community Collab to talk about ways on-line networking can help each organization in its own mission. See http://www.tutormentorconference.org

    18. We can earn a full year worth of funding for Tutor/Mentor Connection if we can get enough votes in March. This means we can do more to help all of the tutor/mentor programs in Chicago. Read more at http://cabrinipip.blogspot.com/2010/03/vote-for-tmc-in-pepsi-refresh-project.html

    19. Tutor/Mentor Connection is beginning a Social Network Analysis project, using donated inFlow software. You can follow our progress at http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com/group/technologyinternswithtutormentorconnection

I'm looking for one or two other interns or volunteers who might want to work with us on this. In return you can learn how to use the software and map some of your own network-building efforts.

    20. I posted new links to articles focusing on networks, and the benefit of networked individuals and organizations. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2009/12/network-building-understanding-tmc.html

I have been given a donation of inFlow network mapping software and can share this with 3-5 other organizations. Contact me if interested. 312-492-9614

    21. I added links related to the Constellation Model of Collaboration to the Tutor/Mentor Connection library. Are any of you familiar with this?

      http://www.tutormentorconnection.org/LinksLearningNetwork/LinksLibrary/tabid/560/rrcid/13/rrscid/26/rrpid/1/rrepp/20/language/en-US/Default.aspx

    22. I've been encouraging people to vote for Cabrini Connections and 19 other non profits in the Chase giving program on Facebook. http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/1184283?src=embed

We use maps to show all of the poverty areas of Chicago where tutor/mentor programs are needed, so that donors and policy makers will look for new ways to generate and spread revenue to all of the programs in these areas. See the program locator at http://www.tutormentorprogramlocator.net.

    23. One group I've been part of for a few years is at NED.com. Here are two discussions that might interest people on this group:

How do you keep track of your on-line connections? <a href="http://www.ned.com/group/i4c/news/4/" target="_blank">http://www.ned.com/group/i4c/news/4/</a>

Defining Collaboration in the Social Change Sector - <a href="http://www.ned.com/group/i4c/news/3/" target="_blank">http://www.ned.com/group/i4c/news/3/</a>

    24. I just sent the Tutor/Mentor Connection's monthly eNews to about 4500 people. You can read it at http://tinyurl.com/TMC-Oct-09-eNews

The focus is on the Conference being held on Nov. 19 and 20 and ways we can all use our social networks to mobilize volunteers and donors to support the many different non profits operating volunteer-based tutoring and/or mentoring programs.

I hope you'll forward the newsletter, and attend the conference if you can.

    25. I've been trying to harness Social Network Analysis tools. Thus, I'm excited that Valdis Krebs, http://orgnet.com , will talk about SNA on Nov. 20 at the Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference, at Northwestern University. If we can help people map their networks and use them to build support for their organizations, we are a step closer to many organizations doing similar work, in the same city, or in many cities. See www.tutormentorconference.org

    26. The next Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference will be held on the Northwestern University campus on Nov. 19 and 20. I'm now recruiting workshop speakers. You can review conference goals and fill out the workshop presenter form at http://www.tutormentorconference.org

    27. I posted a front page story from a 1994 Chicago Tribune, showing the poverty map of Chicago. Not much has changed since then. See blog at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2009/08/poverty-map-not-changed-much-in-15.html

    28. Are you interested in presenting a workshop at the November 19 and 20 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference in Chicago (on the Evanston campus of Northwestern) . We've hosted this event every six months since May 1994. All speakers are volunteers which enables us to keep fees extremely low. Speakers are encouraged to participate, at no fee, in the full day of workshops during the day they are doing their own workshop. See http://www.tutormentorconference.org

    29. I updated the links in the Research and Resource section at http://www.tutormentorconnection.org/LinksLearningNetwork/LinksLibrary/tabid/560/rrcid/17/rrepp/20/language/en-US/Default.aspx

There are quite a few web sites and articles related to the high school drop out rate, education issues, tutoring and mentoring and prevention, etc.

These are resources any group can use to expand member knowledge and understanding of issues and potential solutions.

    30. Posted new maps showing potential collaboration in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. These can be seen at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2009/07/west-side-community-cant-fight-gun.html

    31. Hosting our annual golf benefit this Thursday, July 16 to try to raise a few dollars and some new friends and leaders. Visit http://www.cabrinitmcgolf.org

I've scrolled through this web site several times in past few months. I'm trying to determine how much interaction, and collaboration, is actually going on here? Any feedback would be welcome.

    32. I've found a way to create jpg images from the Tutor/Mentor Program Locator, of maps that show where negative news is taking place, such as the shooting of a 9 year old girl in Chicago this week. See http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2009/06/9-year-old-shot-while-giving-dog-bath.html

The goal is to follow negative media with map stories that draw volunteers and donors to tutor/mentor programs in different parts of the city.

    33. Hosted year end celebration at Cabrini Connections. See http://www.cabriniconnections.net and view video made by teens and volunteers

    34. I've updated the agenda for the May 28 and 29 Tutor/Mentor Leadership and Networking Conference being held in Chicago and hope you'll all take a look. It is at http://www.tutormentorconference.org

The aim is to draw people together who work with youth, or who fund these programs, or invest in them as part of workforce development, diversity, or public health strategies. If you cannot attend, join the group I started here, or our http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com group.

    35. Trying to draw more consistent public attention to volunteer-based tutor/mentor programs in different parts of Chicago, with a goal of drawing donors and volunteers to these programs to help them overcome the challenges of finding dollars in this depressing economy. I use my blog articles for this. You can read these at http://tutormentor.blogspot.com

    36. Organizing May 28 and 29 Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference. Read about this and other resources available to people working in volunteer-based tutoring/mentoring programs.

      http://www.tutormentorconnection.org/AboutTMC/CurrentNewsletter/tabid/646/Default.aspx

    37. Launched a new interactive map based tutor/mentor program locator which you can see at http://www.tutormentorprogramlocator.net/InteractiveMap.aspx

I would be happy to meet with non profits, businesses, faith groups, hospitals or universities to show them how to incorporate this tool in their community engagement, volunteerism, and/or tutor/mentor strategies.

    38. Wrote article about creating a private sector stimulus package to support non profits on my http://tutormentor.blogspot.com site.

    39. Here's an article posted on Facebook this week that illustrates how we're connecting with others and sharing ideas they can use. http://theloop21.com/blogs/how-connecting-people-increases-power

    40. I have been building the Tutor/Mentor Connection, www.tutormentorconnection.org, since 1993. The T/MC is a knowledge-based network focused on helping structured, long-term, volunteer based tutor/mentor programs grow in every high poverty neighborhood of Chicago.
