sally's work updates

    1. I am done with my PT work with Americans for Community Development and I am looking for either a full time job or solid contractual work. If you are interested in hiring a solid communicator and digital strategist please see my blog at www.sallyduros.com or my Linked-In Profile.

    2. I am now working with the founders of the L3C business model —  as a pt consultant — to track L3C businesses and build capacity of the L3C trade group, Americans for Community Development, to serve new L3Cs with training and networking. Some striking initiatives soon to come.

In addition, I am project manager and chief marketer for beginning Web communications related to Endless Sky L3C, a project that will enable a sustainable system of food delivery in Montana. I'll let you know when the site is up.

Am still open and looking for communications and project dev. work in the Community development field.

Just found this update on the St. Louis Fed. Looks like the L3C is putting roots into the Comprehensive Community Development World. http://www.missioncenterl3c.com/

Description of innovation: The Mission Center, L3C - An L3C (low profit limited liability company) providing administrative services to nonprofits; HR, finance/accounting and IT; allows nonprofits to put their Mission at the center of their work. The Mission Center is a hybrid social venture that accelerates social change by working with its nonprofit partners to improve the way in which charitable organizations are managed, resourced and scaled. It is, by design, an innovative, entrepreneurial and disruptive enterprise that increases the impact of the social sector by ensuring the most efficient use of our community's philanthropic resources. To do so, we have created the first socially conscious, low-profit company capable of outsourcing all aspects of a NPO's administrative functions. The range of services provided will ultimately include everything from human resource management, information technology infrastructure development and maintenance, accounting, shared employment pools, pooled purchasing, program evaluation, and client tracking. As the first milestone on the path to fulfilling our long-term vision, we have developed a cross-sector collaboration with an existing Professional Employer Organization (PEO). This strategic partnership has allowed us to enter the market with the lowest possible overhead and highest possible quality of services, and it is this unique and innovative business model that will be the revenue engine driving the expansion and scaling of our comprehensive portfolio of services.

    3. As a volunteer, I am hosting the conversation with social enterprise media companies that are interested in the L3C. See the working groups at L3C advocacy organization: http://www.americansforcommunitydevelopment.org/

    4. I was featured in Community Media Workshop's News Notes as a person to pitch.

      http://communitymediaworkshop.org/2010/08/people-to-pitch-sally-duros-digital-strategist/

the lede says: "For fun, Sally Duros follows the 'future of news'.”

It's not actually "for fun" but I, like the rest of the industry, have to figure out how to sustain myself in this world or get out.

I have lots of bright ideas related to future news streams and I am looking for collaborators who have capacity to raise money or who HAVE money to work with me.

    5. Check out this new free mapmaker and tell me how you like it. http://maker.geocommons.com/

    8. @Paul: AND is there a way I can add the new feed on here to the Facebook Chicago showcase news feed? or do I just want to let news feed go....

    9. @Paul: woudl it make sense to add an rss feed to the work updates so I could use them in the ChiShowcase feeds? [which technically I am not working on]

    10. @Patrick: I'm getting ready for Journalism that Matters, http://journalismthatmatters.org/

How can we reshape journalism so that it engages and serves all people & communities?

Participate in "Journalism That Matters Detroit -- Create or Die: Forging communities that initiate, incubate and innovate."

This focused, three-day gathering of results-driven, action-oriented participants will discover, assess, shape and create forward-looking enterprises focused on key elements of community -- diversity, shared values, respect, participation and developing youth.
Grants from Time Inc., the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Google Inc., and the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute will permit Journalism That Matters to award a total of up to $4,000 in research stipends to up to four entrepreneurs to develop their projects.

JTM especially invites persons of color -- journalists, entrepreneurs, programmers, technologists, bloggers, videographers, venture capitalists, artists, funders, educators and all who have an interest -- to explore how voices often unheard or misrepresented can reshape the future of journalism.

    11. @Patrick: jayrosen_nyu just put a call out on Twitter for news blogs to get themselves listed ...
