marilyn: The formation of a core work group to carefully craft a statewide Community Justice Reinvestment Act (CJRA). The proposed CJRA will establish new partnerships between the State and counties to finance community-based services that reduce the reliance upon State correctional facilities. The purpose of the CJRA is to: a) provide more effective protection of society and to promote efficiency and economy in the delivery of correctional services; b) allow individual counties greater flexibility, apportioned state funding and greater involvement in responding to community needs and the problems of crime; c) provide improved local services for persons charged with criminal offenses; d) increase the use of both services and sanctions by making a wider range of both available at the county level; and e) enhance, increase and support the State and county partnership in the management of offenders.
